Community Café: Wednesdays with One Can
Wednesdays with One Can has evolved to better meet the needs of our community. This weekly event provides a warm, welcoming environment where families can enjoy nutritious meals and a hot drink. This year, we have seen an increase in participation, with an average of 22 attendees per session. The café not only addresses hunger but also offers a space for individuals to seek guidance and support from our dedicated staff and volunteers. We have enhanced our children’s activities, giving parents the opportunity to engage more fully with our services or simply enjoy some respite.
“We visit the café weekly after school. My kids have tried so many different recipes, they get to play, and I have the opportunity to talk to friendly One Can volunteers who always offer so much support.”
One client who recently attended a cookery course told us:
“I love routine. Since arriving in High Wycombe, I haven’t been able to structure my life as well as I would have liked. Getting the kids sorted in schools and finding our feet has been a priority but as things are now straightening out, I wanted to focus a bit more on me. I used to love cooking but for many reasons, that was a thing of the past. By attending the course, I regained my confidence in cooking and have learnt so many (new) recipes and tricks that I will now use daily, knowing that my family will have full tummies. A fridge full of homemade food and healthy freezer meals is life changing.”
